TaleBlazers Festival

About

Taleblazers is a literary arts festival for young people in Alberta. For more than 25 years, the Young Alberta Book Society has been assisting schools and libraries in their efforts to make reading and writing stimulating, exciting and fun, by sending literary artists to Albertan classrooms. Every fall the Taleblazers Festival tours the province giving hundreds of literary presentations to Albertan children in communities large and small getting them fired up about literacy, sparking their imaginations, and giving them stronger literacy skills for a brighter future.

The 28th annual Taleblazers Festival is set for October 4th - 29th 2010! Click Here for more info!

During Taleblazers, YABS coordinates presentations and workshops by Alberta writers, illustrators, and storytellers in schools, public libraries and other venues province-wide. YABS subsidizes these presentations by paying for all travel and accommodation, thereby helping to make these important visits much more affordable for the hosting schools and libraries. We reach an audience of about 60,000 students each year with readings and workshops by Albertan literary professionals.

Our Taleblazers Festival artists/presenters, from diverse age groups and cultural backgrounds, are able to stimulate, educate, and entertain young people wherever they live in Alberta. Presentations may include hands-on activities, drama, participatory storytelling, or an introduction to important artifacts in a behind-the-scenes look at a story.

Illustrators, storytellers, and writers who have in-person contact with students provide an incredible learning experience. Presentations and workshops by these artists help students develop their reading, writing, and visual literacy, creativity and communication skills, and ability to problem-solve.

Set your literacy program ablaze with the Taleblazers Festival!
