With the goal of promoting literacy to the largest possible number of young people, YABS is devoting its time to programs which reach the highest number of participants through the most cost-effective means. Unfortunately, this means that YABS has made the difficult decision to longer be responsible for WordsWorth. While a camp for young people will still take place, YABS will no longer oversee it.

YABS has been in communication with the Alberta Foundation of the Arts (AFA) and the Writers Guild of Alberta (WGA) to express its commitment to working in cooperation to ensure the future of the camp. We are excited about the opportunity to better know our sister non-profit, and to have an opportunity to ensure that young writers are given the best possible network to nurture their skills and meet other aspiring authors.

YABS has been proud to offer the WordsWorth camp and the philosophy of promoting literacy through such a camp was embraced by the amazing people surrounding this event. We were continually impressed by the level of commitment, dedication, and hard work of Lisa Murphy-Lamb, Doug Neilson, the instructors, and the staff. The YABS board and administration thank everyone who participated in the camps for their selfless efforts and devotion to fostering a love of literacy with youth.

WordsWorth 2011 Week 2's Recording Stars

This year's Week 2 camp benefitted from Brendan Mcleod's expertise as a songwriter and touring musician. Brendan was kind enough to record the Open Mic evening as well as the Songwriting class and Brendan's brother Mike McLeod shared his sound mixing skills so that we are able to proudly present our participants' work here for your enjoyment. A huge thank you goes out to Brendan and Mike!
